Volunteers must sign up for at least 6 hrs to receive an assignment. You may sign up for more than one shift, but please be careful! Although JIM Week volunteers are “super,” you can only be at one place at a time. Example — If you sign up for 3 events – we are assuming you want to work at all 3 events/shifts. Thus shifts cannot overlap in date/time.
You must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer. But please look carefully at the online job descriptions because some jobs do have special age requirements.
Please note that the events are scheduled at different venues in Fondren, Midtown, Belhaven, & the Downtown area. Be careful in your volunteer choice if this is an important factor in your decision.
Check-in with your stage manager / coordinator at the venue you are assigned to at your designated time. Please be punctual. You will receive your JIM Week volunteer t-shirt at the volunteer meeting OR upon your arrival at your first assignment.
What to Wear
You are required to wear your volunteer t-shirt for the duration of your assignment each day. Please wear comfortable slacks/jeans, long shorts, or long skirt and comfortable shoes. Be prepared to stand or walk for long periods of time. Valuables should be left at home – space is not secure for purses, briefcases, or backpacks.
The JIM Week website includes general information that should be reviewed in advance – such as the JIM Week map, schedule of events, and parking information.
From Your Event Coordinator
Some jobs require additional training. The stage manager / coordinator of your assigned event will let you know if there is special training or information you need prior to JIM Week. Otherwise, your coordinator will train you when you arrive at assigned venue. All the better reason to arrive a few minutes early for your shift.
Punctuality – Arrive early for your shift to minimize unattended areas and allow volunteers to pass information from shift to shift. The JIM Week volunteer t-shirt is required. Enthusiasm and courteous demeanor is a plus. Please be knowledgeable of the specific areas where you will be working. Know your job assignment and shift, and are prepared for the assignment. Know where to park or have other travel arrangements established prior to the JIM Week. You volunteer ‘freely’, meaning the JIM Week does not pay volunteers.
Street and lot parking is available on-site at most venues. Please make sure to leave any and all valuables at home, not out in the open in your vehicle.
Canceling or Rescheduling
If you are unable to report for your assignment, please notify us at least 24 hours prior to your shift at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you want to change your assigned event, shift time, or day — notify the JIM Week staff in advance. Also, please keep in mind that most slots will be filled by that date, so you will need to be flexible about your new job assignment.
If you have further questions about volunteering, please contact us at email@example.com. Thank you very much for volunteering. We really do appreciate it! The JIM Week team cannot be successful without volunteers! YOU are very important to the success of Jackson Indie Music Week!
